RHINO DESIGN - 24 HOURS
ON-LINE live sessions
After more than ten years teaching this course on-site, we offer an on-line live workshop in Rhino 3D CAD modeling, rendering and digital fabrication strategies for developing designs, models and prototypes.
Find out the best features of the new Rhino 7
Dates: September. If you are interested, please email us to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will let you know as soon as new dates are available
Timetable Friday 4 - 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 4 - 8,30pm (Madrid CET)
Course code RH-DESIGN
Level Basic - Intermediate
Instruction Language English (or Spanish, if all participants can speak it)
Who is it for > Aimed to professionals or students in engineering, architecture, art, design (interior, industrial, product, jewelry, furniture...) and backgrounds related
Requirements > Zoom app and Rhino 6 or 7 for Windows or Mac*. We will provide you with files and information before starting the workshop. If you do not have Rhino, there is an evaluation version for 90 days HERE (please check the system requirements) * For Mac users, it is possible to take the course, although some tools might be slightly different or not compatible. Minimum number of students: 7
Rhino is a 3D software to model objects and projects with a high level of precision, ready for rendering, animation, drafting, analysis or fabrication. In this course we can start with a sketch, CAD file, real object or just an idea.
> > FIRST PART. Rhino 3d
The most important and with more training hours. Students learn basic concepts of 3D modeling, interface and how to start creating and editing simple objects. Next we will jump into the generation of complex surfaces with different modeling strategies and how to obtain certain information for digital fabrication. Although the basis of Rhino is using NURBS we will play and compare with other important geometric entities as SubD for organic modeling and meshes.
> > SECOND PART. Digital Fabrication
We will cover most useful tools and machines for digital fabrication through videos and exercises. The goal is to know the main advantages, differences and how to organise files and information for each system for works in prototyping, architectural models, mock-ups, etc. Particulary, we will talk about 3d printers, CNC milling machines, laser cutting, robots...
> > THIRD PART. Parametric Design
Brief introduction to the plugin GRASSHOPPER for Rhino, a graphical algorithm editor tightly integrated with Rhino’s 3-D modeling tools. Unlike RhinoScript, Grasshopper requires no knowledge of programming or scripting, but still allows designers to build form generators from the simple to the awe-inspiring. The idea is to compare Rhino and Grasshopper workflows and connections, and also discover the power of this tool for advanced design.
> > FOURTH PART. Visual and render tools
Last part is aimed for rendering, 2d drawing, advanced screenshots, animation... Rhino render has been improved in the last versions and we will see how to control basic settings for materials, textures and lighting.

> Bank transfer. Please select this option in the payment process or click above the button “How to register” for detailed information
> Credit - Debit Card (Secure e-commerce platform Redsys & Stripe).
- Is previous knowledge in Rhino required?
No previous knowledge of Rhino or other 3d software is required. We do recommend some background in basic 2D CAD (AutoCAD, Sketchup, Freecad...)
- Are sessions recorded?
Sessions are live. Due to time difference or particular situations we will RECORD the sessions, but they are available only during the next 24 hours in order to follow the course pace.
- How can I access the sessions?
Some days before the course starts, you will access to the course platform. There you can download documentation, files, go to the Zoom sessions and comment or ask questions using the panel discussions. The recorded sessions will be available there too.
- And Mac users?
Although the concepts and commands are the same, the interface and location of icons might differ. Of course this is not a problem to follow the course, but we will teach it using Rhino for Windows. You can have with Parallels or much better creating a Bootcamp partition.
